The writer and playwright Nick Joaquín, considered the most brilliant representative of Philippine letters in English, Joaquín is the most influential author among the first generation of Filipino writers who, after the progressive decline of Spanish, adopted English as a means of expression. Thus, Joaquín displayed the best of his prose in La Naval de Manila, on the meaning of said religious procession; A question of heroes, a study of the protagonists of the Philippine revolution, and Los Aquinos de Tarlac (1983), a journey through that famous clan of Filipino politicians.
