About the Author
Beatrice Harding, a Canadian, was born at Morden, Manitoba where she spent her early years and later attended University of Manitoba, graduating in Home Economics and Education. After marriage to William M. Harding she moved to Saskatckewan living in Swift Current and later Regina, where she taught High School for 10 years. She is the mother of two children.
When her husband joined the United Nations in 1961, she was provided an opportunity for travel and experiences which were the origin of her ambition to write. In Liberia, West Africa, iour-nals were kept in preparation for an African book; in Guyana, South Amer-written for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and some weekly newspapers. Keenly interested in art and culture, the author studied Cultural Anthropology and started a collection of art works from the countries in which she had lived. After a stint in Somalia, East Africa, she turned to art and journalism. A move to the Philippines in 1970 gave the first break to Ms. Harding, when her manuscript on printmaker Manuel Rodriguez Sr. was accepted. She had become interested in Rodriguez when taking Graphic Arts classes from him in 1971. "His life story was so inspiring," she said, "and his struggle to maintain his integrity, raise his family, and spread this art form throughout the Philippines, caught my imagination." After tape recording the life of Manuel and researching and studying Graphic Arts for over two years, the book was 'published,
