Kapampangans think that Atin Ku Pung Singsing is the only folk song there is in their language. As it turned out, there are hundreds. The Center discovered them just in the nick of time—in far-flung villages where there are no recorders to preserve them and no youngsters willing to continue singing them. Armed with videocams, cassette recorders, pansit and sometimes even bottles of gin and beer (for farmers who required them before they would sing), Center researchers combed the countryside and harvested Kapampangan songs, some of them never heard in public before, and others handed down from ancestors. Some of the folks surprised even themselves when they started singing songs they thought they had completely forgotten.
