Edited by Gémino H. Abad and Edna Z. ManlapazThe anthology contains 330 poems from 80 Filipino poets writing in English from the first half of the 20th century. A chief motive for MAN OF EARTH was the quest for the Filipino and what Trinidad Tarrosa calls "the language of my blood." The editors felt that a people is only as strong as its memory. The Anthology contains 330 poems from 80 poets. Although a few ports have been carried forward to the sixties, the mid-fifties end the Anthology because by then the New Critics begin to hold sway. While the selection is based on poetic merit, it also regards the reader's pleasure. Its wide range of poetic forms, themes, and experiments suggests interesting relations between the poets and their milieu.
