An excerpt from the Agricultural practices have to be viewed as an integral part of the entire socio-cultural set-up of a society and as a product of the various interplaying historical forces to which the group concerned had been subjected in a certain time and space. In keeping with this fundamental anthropological idea, an investigation of the agricultural practices of Manobo of southwestern Cotabato, Mindanao Island (Philippines) was made as a modest contribution towards the ultimate understanding of this group and of the other similar ethnic groups in this country who are still practicing the so-called kaingin system of farming and may be considered, as such, one of the weakest links in Philippine economy and society today.
