Dr. Ralph Emerson Hibbs was born in Hiteman, Iowa. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Iowa in 1936 and later served his internship in Portland, Oregon and his residency in Chicago. He won a fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic prior to spending five years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, four of which were spent overseas--three as a P.O,W, in the Philippines. After the War, the author married (in 1946) and served on the staff of the University of Oregon Medical School, and later established his practice there. In 1951, along with three other physicians he founded the Doctors' Clinic in Medford, Oregon. He retired in 1984 but still kept himself occupied with charitable medical projects, doing missionary work in Honduras, Mexico and the Philippines. Traveling worldwide, and on a somewhat more relaxing note, he enjoys hunting, rowing, fishing and "anything outdoors." Widowed after forty years of marriage, Dr. Hibbs and his late wife, Jeanne, have four children: Jill Anne, Ralph E., Jr., Stephen Howard and Jennifer Jeanne. This is his first full-length published book.
