Having been born into a missionary family in Indonesia, Anne C. Kwantes has been familiar with Protestant missions from an early age. Kwantes spent her formative teenage years in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. After marriage, and several years in Canada, she and her husband were assigned as missionaries of the Christian Reformed Church in North America to Asia. For 11 years she, her husband and their four children made their home in Tokyo, Japan. since 19080 she and her husband have lived in Manila, Philippines. Her A.B. degree was earned at the International College of Sophia University in Tokyo, with a major in Asian Studies. Her M.A. degree, from the Asian Center of the University of the Philippines, was also in the are Asian Studies; her thesis topic dealt with the contributions of the early Presbyterian and Reformed missionaries in Japan. She received her Ph.D. degree in Philippine studies from the Asian center in 1987.
