About the Author
J. Neil C. Garcia teaches literature and creative writing at the University of the Philippines, Diliman. In 1994, he coedited Ladlad: An Anthology of Philippine Gay Writing, the landmark book that made available to a wider readership the body of homosexual literature by Filipinos. He taught the first class on gay writing ever offered in a Philippine university, and his study of Philippine gay culture's last thirty years had recently been published by U.P. Press. His poems have won for him a number of awards; his first poetry collection, Closet Quivers, cam out in 1992. He is currently associate for Poetry of the U.P. Creative Writing Center, and edits "Gayzette," a weekly section in The Evening Paper devoted to the discussion of homo/sexual politics. Our Lady of the Carnival is his second book of poems.
