Translation of the highly interesting yet virtually unknown description of Spanish colonial Philippines in its final stage and the beginnings of the Philippine Revolution, by this French writer/traveller during his one-week Manila stay. It is the last chapter of “En Escale : De Ceylan Aux Philippines. Ceylan, Singapour, Saïgon, Hong-Kong, Macao, Canton, Manille, Une Semaine Aux Philippines”, originally published in Paris in 1900 (not cited in this translation), with several subsequent editions including 1911 (cited here as translation basis) & 1927.
