The book focuses on the events unfolding in the country from September 21, 1972 when President Marcos declared martial law until he left the country in 1986. The book, however, also discusses the circumstances that led Marcos to plant the seeds of authoritarian rule in the Constitutional Convention that began its work in 1971 and the acts by which he strengthened his one-man rule even after he has supposedly lifted martial rule in 1981. The book, therefore, encompasses a period of some 15 years.
