The papers in this Manila volume are selected papers presented at the 17th Annual Manila Studies Conference held on August 13-14, 2008, at the Tanghalan Leandro V. Locsin, NNCA Building in Intramuros. MSA conferences have presented multi-and-interdisciplinary papers with specific relevance to Manila studies covering all fields or disciplines--history, archaeology, literature, music, folklore, popular culture, social problems, language. There are nine papers included in this volume, all focusing on various aspects of Manila Studies, looking at studies hitherto not given much attention.
