Excerpt from the Editor's Note: KAAGING BISAYA literally translates as "Visayan experience." The papers in this volume deal with gender research undertaken in three islands of the Visayas: Leyte, Cebu, and Panay. Each of these islands has a unique ethnolinguistic culture, albeit no one has probably ever studied and described them adequately. Only the Visayans themselves know the ethnoliguistic distinction of each group from another. These differences used to be matter for contention among the Visayans, but not anymore. Ease of sea travel among the islands and good highways within each of the major islands have broken down the estrangement and opened up the people to more commerce and social interaction.
