This book is BILINGUAL (Spanish and English). Excerpt from the Introduction: Edmundo Farolan is the last of the Filipino poets who uses Spanish as his lyrical language. His Spanish which has traces of English and Tagalog reaches out for the anecdotal, humorous, and the surreal. His Spanish is the Spanish still spoken in the Philippines by certain post-colonial families. It's refreshing and revitalizing and has become more so throuh his stays in Spain and Latin America and in Spanish contacts in North America. This is precisely what gives Farolan's poems an expressive freshness, and at the same time, an interesting cosmopolitan air. We don't want to conclude without alluding to the obvious generation affinity of Farolan with those Spanish poets of the sixties who were identified as Novísimos (Experimentalists). The fact that Edmundo lived and wrote during this period in Madrid shows a style ranging from culturalism, neologism, and mechanism, to neo-surrealism and cosmopolitanism...putting Philippine poetry in Spanish, which one time stood still in time...with today's avant-garde. - Manuel García Castellón (University of New Orleans
