This volume covers the years in which the National Historical Commission compiled and published the Historical Calendar in 1970.The years 1970 to 2000 were crucial in Philippine History due to these historical events: the second term of Ferdinand E. Marcos, the Martial Law years, the EDSA "Revolution," and the administrations of Presidents Corazon C. Aquino, Fidel V. Ramos, and Joseph Ejercito Estrada. These years saw the final years under the 1935 Constitution; the "constitutional authoritarianism," actually a dictatorship, under President Marcos; the fall of Marcos and the restoration of the pre-1972 docial order under President Aquino; the drive towards globalization under President Ramos; and the short but tumultuous administration of President Estrada. This period witnessed the rise and fall of authoritarian rule, the restoration of democracy and the trend towards populist governance. Aside from political events, the calendar featured newsworthy happening including developments in the economy, culture, science and technology. With this collection of events, the historian will be able to see the developing patterns in the nation's saga and create a guide in interpreting history.
