About the Geraldine Barangan Korten was born in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. She received her primary, secondary and baccalaureate education from the University of the Philippines. Her parents, Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Santiago and Floy (nee Samonte) Barangan, have five children and nine grandchildren. Ms. Korten is married to Dr. Klause Korten, from Essen, Germany. They have two sons, Carlos, 25, working in the corporate world of America, and Santiago, 22, a pre-med student. The Kortens have previously resided in Minnesota and in Hannover, Germany. They have now lived in Natick, Massachusetts, for 20 years. Ms. Korten has a masters degree in nursing from Boston University. She was an intensive- care nurse and a nursing supervisor before going into business. She owns and runs her own travel agency, East West Travel, Inc.. She paints "Flowers of the World" in watercolor and produces greeting cards and other retail products. She dances ballet, likes to sing, plays the guitar and the piano. She speaks Ilocano, Tagalog, German, English and is learning Spanish and French. She is a Rotarian. She also writes travel articles. This is her first novel.
