Threatened to be obscured by the inroads of other cultural influences into the Cagayan Valley since the early part of the 20th century, Gaddang culture is in such a predicament that unless an ambitious work is undertaken to preserve the rich tribal heritage, the Gaddangs wouldsoon lose their cultural identity. It is against this backdrop that the author Ma. Luisa Lumicao-Lora, who herself represented the melange of races that typifies the Nueva Vizcaya population, endeavored to write a book about the limited surviving Gaddang literature. Gaddang Literature was originally the author's masteral thesis in education in Tuguegarao, Cagayan. Her ultimate goal, however, was to see the publication of her work as a book in homage to her roots.
