The Equity Village was born on June 14, 1997, on a Flag Day Celebration, in MacArthur Park, Los Angeles, California, built around General MacArthur's Statue, where it sat for 311 days and nights until it was forced out by unsympathetic park authorities to relocate somewhere else. From its very inception, The Equity Village has become the locus and focus of Filipino WWII veterans sit-ins, rallies, vigils, and prayer meetings to heighten awareness of and drum support for their cause and their goal that has eluded them for the last 52 years or so - the passage by the U.S. Congress of the Filipino Veterans Equity Act. It has also become the rallying point and the catalyst for Filipino American unity and empowerment of America. The following pages will tell the story of a phenomenal happening that is The Equity Village.
