The Church and its Social Involvement in the Philippines attempts to answer the question "What role did the Philippine Catholic Church play in preserving or transforming Philippine social institutions in the twentieth century? Very little has been written of the Church's social involvement, and the book tries to fill this gap. Of his work, the author says: "In tracing the development of the Philippine Church's socioeconomic involvement and in delineating those forces that either promoted or inhibited such involvement, it hopes to provide that historical perspective which will enable us to appreciate and to understand the accomplishments and failures of the Philippine Church in her attempt to Christianize other social institutions. This perspective can also give us insights into the present state on social involvement of Filipino Catholics and a solid foundation on which to make plans for the future."
