The 1970's were years of trial and decision for Filipino youth of commitment and concern. These messages and meditations addressed to their condition at that time may well speak to another generation today in a nationalist and Christian context. William Henry Scott, a lay missionary of the Philippine Episcopal Church was then teaching Church hsistory in St. Andrew's Theological Seminary and Philippine history in the state university. Educated at Yale, Columbia and the University of Santo Tomas, his understanding of the challenges confronting his students was deepened by contact with them in political detention during the first year of Martial Law.
