"This work, General Blanco, exemplifies the partisan Spanish writing at that time, seeking to defend Blanco and also the Spanish combat record in the early months of the revolution. The author, a journalist turned soldier and who was wounded in action, writes very emotionally but, unfortunately, with little concrete content. There is also nothing about the root causes of the revolution or an attempt to see the Filipino side so engrossed is the author in protecting his reputation and propounding his ideas. But this was published at that time, and serves as a way of gauging Spanish perceptions of the revolution, limited though it may be. -Ricardo Trota Jose" -Excerpts from the Foreword.
