Ramon Muzones's Shri-Bishaya (1969), is a masterful recasting of Pedro Monteclaro's controversial Maragtas (1907) that is both a nostalgic paean addressed to Western Visayans as well as a commentary on the state of the nation under the Marcos administration. Considered by its author as his most nationalistic novel, Shri-Bishaya provided Muzones a rich lode for mining two of his favorite themes: the concept of an ideal state and the making of an ideal leader. With this second translation from Hiligaynon into English, Ma. Cecilia Locsin-Nava shows why Muzones is inarguably the most awarded Hiligaynon writer of the century.
Shri-Bishaya is serialized in Hiligaynon magazine two years before Martial Law's declaration.
