A span of forty-two years of teaching service in the Philippine public schools has given Mrs. Adriana C. Alcantara a wellspring of material to draw her stories from. She was a teacher, guidance counselor, assistant principal and district supervisor in the Division of City Schools of Manila. For ten years she worked as an instructional aide in a California high school in the United States where she now resides with her husband and children. The former Miss Adriana Chan, she started teaching after her graduation from the Philippine Normal School in 1937. She became Mrs. Alcantara in 1940 and had two little daughters during the Japanese Occupation years. Motherhood did not prevent her from joining the ROTC Hunters Guerrilla during World War II. Mrs. Alcantara earned her E.T.C. in 1937, her B.S.E. in 1961 and her M.A. degree in 1967 all from the Philippines Normal School (now PNU). In 1978 she finished her Ed.D. at the National Teachers' College, Manila. Her years as a Sunday School teacher inspired her to write her first book, "Life of Jesus in Verse" which was published in 1987. Dr. Alcantara's third book is a novelette entitled "A Year to Remember," also published by New Day Publishers.
