Having given this copy to a college friend nearly four (4) years ago in graduate school, following the annual Manila International Book Fair, I came across two of the author's works in another booksale last year, which prompted me to look for a copy of "Herstory" (which I had a hard time trying to achieve since I kept missing just one copy in bookstores that usually carry her works) because in a way, in felt to me like missing a part of the collection, and each time I read one of Ma'am Chari's works, it seems like I'm listening to her stories again up in Baguio, one summer in 2013.

While the book is a slim title containing seven (7) short stories, the progression of the pieces grows in power as I read through them, not because of the drama, the suspension of disbelief, rather the sense of honesty that I took from them. And given that this is a work of fiction in which readers are aware of its nature, to me the stories read as if they are true accounts of someone's life, like people whose memories are being transposed and opened to the public. In a way, I thought I was also reading someone's journal from their high school and young adults years, with the speaker reminiscing the days from her past--those that have left an indelible mark.
