This book refers to the institutions of the people of Sulu and Southern Mindanao. A history of the Philippines that fails to consider these two groups would be incomplete for it could be said that the history of the Philippines from 1850 to 1895 is a story of a duel lasting over three centuries between the Christian Kingdom of Manila and the Muslim Kingdoms of Sulu and Maguindanao. This is a duel which Manila won. By 1876, Jolo had been taken and was under permanent occupation and by 1895 the colonial army had established itself on the shores of Lake Lanao.Publisher: Historical Conservation Society, 1984
