'Desire and Other Stories' is a collection of all the extant thirty-five short stories of Paz M. Latorena, a member of the first generation of Filipino writers in English. She wrote some forty short stories during a career spanning the years 1927 to 1943. A prolific writer, who was adroit in forms as diverse as prose poems, interviews, and features, she was at her best when she was writing short stories. In spite of the fact that her writing career lasted only sixteen years, her place in the history of Philippine short story writing in English is secure. Aside from being one of the pioneers of this literary form, she won national recognition for several of her works.
