"The idea for this book came from Anvil publisher Karina Bolasco who, upon learning that Felice Sta. Maria and I were compiling and editing essays on comfort food by members of the International Wine and Food Society for its second Booklet, urged me to come up with such a book, by well-known writers on their particular comfort food. For many of them, writing of their comfort food has been an act of remembering, of retrieving the memory of their childhood and growing up years, with mother cooking dishes that made them feel cosseted and loved.
