The book provides an authentic view of the Japanese occupied Philippines during WWII. Seen through the eyes of a 7 year old boy, the account tells of a sad time in Manila's history. It relives, among others, the plight of a family living in South Manila, many incidents of Japanese brutality, the delicate balancing act of the Christian Brothers of the then De La Salle College to ensure their safety and survival, and the destruction that the innocuously described 'liberation of Manila' wrought.
