The two articles of the present book are contemporary reports by French journalists who provide us with many insights into the politics of both sides in our War of Independence, otherwise know as the Philippine-American war (although Americans insist in calling it the Philippine Insurrection). Our authors are as admiring in their view of Aguinaldo and his people as they are repelled by the duplicity of their former allies. It only remains to be said that the story disappeared from the Filipino consciousness for two generations, thanks to history books authored first by the American teachers and then by Filipinos steeped in the colonial atmosphere of the educational system.
