Leaves from the Silverlake Barrio' is a collection of urban magical realism tales that deal with the human existence. The characters in this book come from varying environments but share a certain sense of grief, isolation and hope. Based on the experience of losing a mentor, Leaves is what came out of a year long grieving process for the author who used writing as a means to immortalize someone who passed away. Here is an excerpt from Wolf: I like it, not the plaque; the cold. I like the idea of freezing and rubbing my arms with my hands or cupping them and blowing inside for warmth. There's nothing better than walking around downtown Anchorage when it starts to get dark again, noon, and breathe the air that's become ice. You can just see Mt. McKinley looming from afar smiling. Author is a poet, playwright and performer. He wrote the play, ALLOS: The Story of Carlos Bulosan, commissioned by East West Players theater.
