The closed-in security escorts were to make sure that the deliverer walked the gangplank with them and that none of the international chronicoglers was let out of the Chinese junk, or even allowed to follow close behind. Once the escorts neared the end of the gangplank, they would let go of the deliverer and quickly jump onto the pier either side of it to raise the gangplank, throwing the deliverer overboard.
