DIWA Arts was one of the six participants in Art in the Urban Landscape, an art program of long-term, temporary public artworks sponsored by Capp Street Project and the Wallace AlexanderGerbode Foundation, San Francisco. DIWA Arts derived the concept for their project from their common Filipino culture. The Filipino custom of Bayanihan, in which neighbors and family members assist a farmer in the seasonal relocation of his hut, provided an apt metaphor for the multi-phased form of Bayanihan Transition, and for the larger symbolism Bayanihan suggests - that of the immigrant's need for support in a new country.
