Philippine genealogy has come of age. This observation has prompted me to put down guidelines based on my experiences in the field. There are many young Filipinos from all walks of life and from different parts of the country who are involved in the pursuit of their forbears and clan members as part of their search for identity. I have met them time and again while poring over old manuscripts at the National Archives and the Manila Archdiocesan Archives as well as in the National Library. These are certainly many more I have not met and I would also like to share my experiences with them so that they can avoid the pitfalls, false leads and inferences to which I was vulnerable because I did not have any guide at all...
