"Manuel Maximo Lopez del Castillo-Noche’s ‘Puentes de Espana en las Filipinas’ is a study of the extant Spanish colonial bridges in the Philippines. The early history of bridge construction in the country, writes Noche, “is attributed to both the Spanish missionaries and conquistadores, who, along with their task of converting, pacifying and subjugating souls, were also responsible for building communities.” The early bridges were made using either cut stone or brick, later ones were made with steel, or a combination of masonry, iron, and wood. This book is an exhaustive documentation of the remaining bridges, and presents rare historical data on construction during the Spanish period."
