Kapampangan history, culture and geography has always revolved around one mountain, Mt. Arayat-until June 15, 1991, the day Mt. Pinatubo on the other side of Pampanga erupted. From then on, it was Pinatubo, not Arayat, that reconfigured the region's landscape, altered the lives of thousand, and dictated the course of events. In mythology, Sinukuan of Arayat defeated the rival god Namalyari of Pinatubo, but the 1991 eruption has left litte doubt on who dominates the Kapampangan Region.
