The Manila Studies Association (MSA) annual conference has always been a venue for the sharing of studies, discussions, and debates on Philippine/Manila history. The published papers are much anticipated by scholars and researchers as they provide a wider dissemination of information and their use as sources for relates researches. This volume focuses on Philippine society and culture. The paper deal with research on various aspects of Manila society and culture--bell casters and bell casting, education for women during the Spanish colonial period, social problems as reflected in documented petty crimes, and literary arts. There is also revisionist history which seeks to clarify issues through a re-reading of pertinent literature in history and archaeology, as well as a brief essay on an important repository of historical data that could be useful for researchers on the history of the Philippines. Though varied in content, these papers present topics that are rich in information and could be useful for future studies on the City of Manila and its environs. -Jose Victor Z. Torres, Issue Editor
