In 2001, Leny Strobel's seminal book was groundbreaking and it continues to be one of the most important texts on Filipinas/os in the United States. It has been instrumental in the understanding the impact that colonialism has had on Filipino Americans while also providing us a means toward resistance through decolonization. Since this book provides both theory and empirical evidence, it has been widely assigned in courses in Education, Ethnic Studies, Asian American Studies, and Filipina/o American Studies throughout the nation. Because of its relevant framework and applicability to the Filipina/o American community and beyond, it has also been cited in most of my students' dissertations, theses, papers, and in my own articles and books. We are fortunate to have a book that has been a catalyst for social and personal change for many and we hope that the book continues to be read for generations to come. --Allyson Tintiangco-Cubales, Professor, Ethnic Studies, San Francisco State University
Professor Leny Strobel's COMING FULL CIRCLE transformed scholarship and teaching for generations of scholars and their students. As a graduate student at Harvard University, I incorporated Strobel's research on decolonization into the theoretical framework for my dissertation. I know other scholars who did the same. At various national conferences during the next decade, I'd often work with students wearing attire proclaiming "Decolonize!" My sense is that this wouldn't have happened without Strobel's groundbreaking work. --Joan May T. Cordova, Multimedia Oral Historian and Social Justice Educator-Teacher
