This volume offers the reader not a summing up of a life of poetry, but a living sum of poetry, a poetic summation of life. Although meant to be retrospective, this volume is really introspective, a kind of paradoxical way station before continuing on a journey with no end in sight. Dimalanta is indeed a poem still to be written, but the very writing is a poem. The Ur-poem that German critics love to look for is in this volume, but it has to be looked for. Dimalanta-like anything or anyone else heavenly- rewards only the faithful.
